In a simple statistic of any district, not to mention any country, car crashes are among the leading causes of mortality. At least half the accidents end up with someone getting killed or severely injured, beyond any healing miracles, while the other half presents us with victims of those accidents, victims who miraculously live to tell the story of their own negligence, or that of others’.
Among the reasons for which road accidents happen we can enumerate here the violation of traffic rules such as speeding, not paying attention to signals, driving recklessly, etc. Also, a major cause, nowadays, is the alcohol and drugs that more and more people consume. This latter problem is a universal one, as police departments all over the world are facing the same difficulties. Although special regulations are passed every year, and the punishments for drivers found drugged, or drunk behind the wheel are overwhelming, people don’t seem to bother with this, and continue to defy the law, leading themselves and other traffic participants to unfortunate events.
Other notable causes identified as being responsible for the production of car accidents are the use of mobile phones while in traffic, which seriously distracts the driver’s attention from the road. Even if we are talking about experienced drivers these things happen and disasters may happen. Speaking of experienced driver, to contrast with them, another increasingly major percentage of road accidents are caused by young persons, teen-agers, who have yet to know the meaning of the word “responsibility”, and not just in traffic.
I think it is appropriate for this occasion to also speak about the different types of accidents, and show exactly what kind of injuries they provoke, or the amount of damage they can be responsible for. The first one would be the “head-on” collision, which is actually likely to produce the greatest damage for both parties. Usually such collisions end up with people getting killed, and the mortality rate for people in the front seats is absolutely frightening. More types of accidents are the side collisions, rollovers, rear-end collisions, etc. Although these do not have such a high mortality rate, they can also be extremely severe, depending mostly on the speeds the two involved in the accident were having.
Minor car accident injuries can be treated instantly, and you are also entitled to compensation, if you were the victim in that particular incident, but what is most concerning, is that in most cases the injuries are so bad, they can’t be treated accordingly, and the injured person will carry them on for the rest of their life.
Due to the always mounting number of car accidents, car manufacturers are constantly striving to find new and improved solutions to help better secure their clients. From seat belts, to airbags, voice alerts integrated in the main computer of the car, and sensors which detect distance between your car and the one in front or in the back, manufacturers will stop at nothing to help us, their consumers, lead a risk-free life in their cars.
The fact is the fault is ours. If it weren’t for our natural instinct of proving ourselves, car crashes would never have gotten to be what they are today – the main reason for fatality, perhaps even before serious diseases such as cancer, or AIDS. We need to stop pushing the pedal, and start thinking of our lives, as nothing is more important than our health.
